Hubs are off-chain servers that store data on behalf of addresses that have registered an qid. They track the IdRegistry to know the addresses that have an qid, the StorageRegistry to find out how many messages they are allowed to store and the KeyRegistry to find out which key pairs can sign messages on behalf of the user.

Concepts

A decentralized social network has many requirements that are difficult to meet in a single system. Users must be able to create, own, and transfer accounts in a decentralized manner. Messages they create must propagate in near real-time and are often issued at high volumes. Meeting these goals is only possible using a hybrid architecture that mixes onchain and offchain systems.

A message is a public update from an account. There are different kinds of messages like posts, reactions, or follows. They are signed by an account and stored on OpenRealm Hubs. A message is encoded as a protobuf, hashed with Blake3, and signed with an Ed25519 signature from the accounts signer.

L1 Contract

Users create accounts by registering with on-chain contracts. OpenRealm contracts help set up identity key pairs, signing key pairs, usernames and with acquiring storage on off-chain systems. Contracts are deployed across multiple chains and off-chain services track the state of the these contracts by watching for events.

L2 Contract

Social networks are typically managed by a business that has access to the relationships, data, and individuals on them. Although this methodology has produced a number of successful products, it eventually addresses the same issues. Users and developers freedoms are curtailed, and they are vulnerable to unwanted moderation and privacy intrusions.

Installation
